TobyKeith is now officially the world’s oldest living dog

The bond that a dog shares with the owner is very strong. Both of them want to enjoy each other’s company as much as possible. As a pet owner, the most important is the health of the pet and his long life. Here we will talk about one lucky person, Gisela Shore who was able to enjoy both as her Chihuahua TobyKeith is now 21 years old.

He was born in the sunshine state of Florida on January 9th, 2001. Now 21 and 99 days old, Chihuahua has lived through the tenure of 4 US presidents. The dog is now officially declared the oldest living dog by the Guinness book of world records.

The dog was named after the singer TobyKeith as an homage to Gisela’s love for country music. When she named the dog, the singer TobyKeith was actually touring her state. Before the dog was named TobyKeith, his name was Peanut Butter. According to Gisela, she adopted the dog while volunteering for the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue shelter.

The dog was surrendered by an elderly couple because they were unable to look after him. The dog was taken very well care of by Gisela Shore. Though the dog has a heart condition yet that does not bother him. The owner makes sure to keep his health in check.

The secret to a dog’s long life is a combination of a healthy diet, exercise, and good genes. The dog is very active even at this age. The previous dog who held this title was Bluey which was an Australian cattle dog who died at 29 years of age in 1939.

If we talk about the average life span of Chihuahuas, they only live till 12 to 18 years old. They have to be taken care of well otherwise they fell victim to such diseases as heart disease, luxating patellas and dental issues. We wish TobyKeith a long and healthy life ahead.
